Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Onion, and Garlic

1. Cook the Bacon:
In a large skillet or frying pan, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until it’s crispy. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
Once cooked, remove the bacon and set it aside, leaving the rendered bacon fat in the pan.
2. Sauté the Onions:
Add the sliced onion to the skillet with the bacon fat. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and translucent.
3. Add Garlic:
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
4. Add the Cabbage:
Gradually add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. If it doesn’t all fit at once, add it in batches, stirring to wilt it down as it cooks.
Cook the cabbage for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it’s tender but still slightly crisp.
5. Season:
Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir in the crispy bacon and mix everything well.
6. Serve:
Remove from heat and garnish with chopped parsley or chives, if desired. Serve warm.
