Gesmoorde / Braised Chicken
When you don’t feel like spicy food this chicken dish is a perfect, simple, quick, easy and delicious alternative. You can omit the peas and add mixed vegetables if you like.
Ingredients:
10 pieces of chicken
2 finely chopped onions
2 TBSP oil
2 cups of peas or mixed vegetables
3-4 potatoes cut in half / quarter
A cup of chicken stock / vegetable stock
Salt and pepper to taste
2-3 minced garlic
3 bay leaves
3 cloves
3 allspice
Braised onions in oil until dark brown. Add garlic, bay leaves, cloves and allspice. Add chicken and potatoes, stir and cook. Brown it as much as possible. Add chicken stock / vegetable stock and add little drops of water at a time as needed. Add salt and pepper to taste. When chicken and potatoes are cooked through add peas / mix vegetables and cook for a further 5 minutes.
