Homemade Krispy Kremes

Prepare the Dough:

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, eggs, melted butter, and salt. Mix until well combined.

Add the yeast mixture to the bowl and stir to combine.

Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough:

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Shape the Doughnuts:

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.

Roll the dough out to about ½ inch thickness on a floured surface.

Use a doughnut cutter or two round cutters (one large, one small) to cut out the doughnuts and the holes.

Place the cut doughnuts on a floured baking sheet, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, until puffy.

Fry the Doughnuts:

Heat oil in a deep fryer or large, heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (180°C).

Carefully add the doughnuts to the hot oil, frying 2-3 at a time. Fry for about 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

Use a slotted spoon to remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a wire rack to drain excess oil.

Prepare the Glaze:

In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Glaze the Doughnuts:

While the doughnuts are still warm, dip each one into the glaze, ensuring it’s fully coated.

Place the glazed doughnuts back on the wire rack to allow the glaze to set.

Serve:

Enjoy your homemade Krispy Kremes fresh and warm, just like they serve at the store!
